After ‘Jota’ chants aimed at Never, Ronaldo urges for lifetime bans

Chrisiano Ronaldo said that there have to be limits, as it is no longer football; people who behave like that should never be allowed to enter the premises of a stadium ever again. 

Ronaldo said from his personal account in response to a clip of Neves from his account. "This kind of behaviour must be punished by the league, and they should never be allowed into a stadium again," the former Portuguese international added.

Jota died in a car crash in north-west Spain last July, close to the city of Zamora. A close and dear friend of Jota's, Neves was a pallbearer at his funeral. The disrespectful chants were occured on Saturday (Sep 12 of 2026) during a fixture between Al-Taawoun and Neves' side Saudi Arabia. 

Footage was filmed from the stands during the game and circulated on social media seemingly showing fans chanting "Jota" - a reference to Never's former teammate Diogo Jota - at Neves.

Neves was drawn to the chanters, who pointed his eye then uo tp sky in his response. 

Ronaldo commented from his personal account in response to a post on Instagram that showed the footage. The league must take action and punish this kind of behaviour. This is no longer football, and there have to be limits. People who behave like this should never be allowed to enter a stadium again. Al Hilal revealed the club has launched a formal investigation in the matter.

"Al Hilal has noted the offensive and unacceptable chants directed by a section of Al Taawoun supporters at Al Hilal’s Portuguese player, Ruben Neves. This behavior contravenes sporting values ​​and ethics, transcending the boundaries of competition and fan support," the club said in a statement.
