This is not a drill, Eve has finally won a Grammy. Despite topping the Billboard 200 with 'Let There Be Eve... Ruff Ryders' First Lady' and defining early-2000s rap radio, her prime went unrewarded. This has made her Grammy moment sweeter than ever.

Eve was just presented with a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for 'You Got Me' by The Roots. The honor corrects her uncredited role at the 2000 ceremony. The moment arrived 27 years later during the Recording Academy Honors in Los Angeles.

“We needed to make it right, and it was a chance for us to make it right." Recording Academy Chief Executive Officer Harvey Mason Jr. explained the decision onstage. He noted the oversight became clear through a recent review. The Academy moved to formally recognize Eve’s recorded contribution.

"Wow, what is yours never can miss you, even 30 years later." Eve could not help but remark at the miraculousness of it. Her speech overflowed with gratitude, honoring her little Philadelphia self who first fell in love with rhyme. The delayed trophy reframed early-career erasure as overdue affirmation.

The drama that delayed the Grammy for Eve

The drama revolves around 'You Got Me,' the 1999 hit by The Roots. Eve delivered a fierce second verse yet received no official credit. Erykah Badu alone was featured, leaving Eve’s lyrical prowess officially uncredited.

When the song claimed the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2000, Eve was omitted. Only The Roots and Erykah Badu were recognized. The oversight exposed the industry’s careless approach to proper acknowledgment.

In her 2024 memoir, she has spoken up about how, although she was busy building her career, the moment left her deflated. Since then, the drummer of The Roots has apologized to her after she confronted him on his own podcast.

With all that drama finally settled, the rap community has come full circle now that Eve has finally been given a Grammy for her work on the song.
