AI has provoked controversy for years, but Disney, with its mermaids, talking mice, and magic, seems an unlikely participant. At a Heber City precinct, an AI report-writing program generated a report claiming a police officer had become a frog, merging fantasy with procedural reality in bewildering fashion.

Heber City Police Department in Utah encountered a peculiar AI error when The Princess and the Frog was playing near a traffic stop. Draft One, Axon’s AI report-writing software using OpenAI models, misinterpreted the audio and produced a report claiming Officer John Miller had turned into a frog.

"The body cam software and the AI report writing software picked up on the movie that was playing in the background, which happened to be 'The Princess and the Frog,'" Sergeant Rick Keel told FOX 13. The statement clarified that background audio from the film caused the AI to combine real events with the movie’s dialogue.

Despite the error, FOX 13 reported that the department continues testing Draft One alongside Code Four, developed by George Cheng and Dylan Nguyen. Both systems aim to reduce paperwork by six to eight hours per week. The incident emphasized the importance of human review for AI-generated reports.

By associating with AI, Disney has unleashed confusion even machines cannot handle, and this episode makes that very clear.
