Bringing Wicked to life has, in turn, brought together the lives of some recurring faces of Hollywood. Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, too, have crossed orbits yet again in an 80s musical fashion.

Both Ariana Grande and Jonothan Bailey have spent part of their lives on theatre stages. As if on a bout of giving ode to those times, came their roles as Glinda and Prince Fiyero in Wicked and Wicked: For Good.

Come 2026, the two seem to be continuing this bout with a rendition of Sunday in the Park with George. The news has risen via a joint post on the actors' Instagrams. This is one more step forward from being in early talks for the musical, revealed by Deadline in December 2025.

The musical is going to be helmed by Marianne Elliott for a 2027 run, as per Deadline. Once developed, this will also mark Ariana Grande's West End debut, a stage Bailey is quite familiar with.

Just like Wicked, this West End musical comes with a history of its own.

What happens on Sunday in a Park with George?

Running on stages for the first time in 1984, Sunday in a Park with George is a prize-winning fictionalisation of the Post-Impressionist artist, Georges Seurat. It follows the artist's increasing obsession with his work, simultaneously realising it has alienated him from the things that should be important.

Marianne Elliott will be taking over the original creators of the musical, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Sunday in a Park With George holds the Pulitzer and Tony Awards, a prestige that Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande will have to hold up.
