Barbra Streisand will not be able to attend the Cannes Film Festival’s closing ceremony to personally receive her honorary Palme d’Or after a knee injury has disrupted her travel plans. The festival will still honor her during the May 23 event, but the multi-hyphenate legend, singer, actor, and filmmaker, will instead recover at home while the Croisette pays tribute to her decades-long impact on cinema and popular culture.

“On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year," Streisand expressed in a statement on Sunday. She stressed how she had been looking forward to spending time with her peers and returning to France. Her message struck a balance between personal regret and appreciation for the recognition.

"While I regret that I can’t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year," she further continues. The filmmaker was going to be presented with an honorary Palme d’Or alongside Peter Jackson and Jon Travolta.

Cannes organizers confirmed that the closing ceremony will still include a dedicated tribute. Streisand will be honored alongside fellow recipients. The festival also issued well-wishes for her recovery, highlighting the respect she commands across the industry.
