Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish is set to venture into new territories, alongside her musical career. The Grammy Award-winner has recently expressed an increasing fascination with acting while speaking to Elle. While she has confessed that filmmaking and writing scripts are currently out of the question, some possibilities might mean she is heading in a new direction.
With Billie Eilish's concert film Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) being soon released all over the world, Eilish’s interest in acting has come into the limelight. First simply teased as a hidden collaboration with James Cameron, the union with the fellow Oscar-winner has sparked, and now received Eilish's own few cents about the possibility.
“Writing and directing a film is so much work. I don’t know if that’ll ever be a thing that I do, but the acting side [is what] I’m really interested in,” said in conversation with Elle for the April cover shoot.
Furthermore, in March, Deadline disclosed that Eilish was in talks to feature in her first film, an adaptation of Sylvia Plath's 1963 novel The Bell Jar. Although the exact role has not yet been disclosed, director Sarah Polley is set to take on the project.
While her acting debut may be in the talks, Billie Eilish has already made a mark on Hollywood's most lavish red carpet.
Billie Eilish's Oscar win before setting foot on the silver screen
Having famously grown up under the influence of music and Hollywood through her parents, Billie Eilish has made a significant mark on the award scene. Following her numerous Grammy wins, Eilish has also become the first person in the 21st century to have both a Grammy and an Academy Award to her name.
Her mark on the Academy Awards came with two songs sung for the movies No Time to Die and Barbie in 2022 and 2024, respectively. They are titled 'No Time to Die' and 'What Was I Made for.'
As her collaboration with James Cameron on Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour Live in 3D prepares to take center stage, it might also be kick-starting a path towards the silver screen for her. Now, everything from her wins to her own Hollywood career preferences is pointing towards a much-anticipated pivot in Eilish's so-far music-laden trajectory.
As Billie Eilish steps closer to the world of cinema, could her next role redefine how audiences see her beyond music? Let us know in the comments.
