Acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky spoke about his AI-generated series On This Day… 1776 during the AI for Talent Summit at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The director revealed that he is continuing work on the ambitious project through his AI-focused studio, Primordial Soup, while exploring how artificial intelligence could reshape filmmaking in the years ahead.

“I was just blown away because I instantly realized that it was going to change everything that we do as filmmakers, it was going to have a huge impact. I wasn’t really sure what it would be, I formed Primordial Soup because I wanted to be ready to somehow get involved,” he said at the summit.

The Black Swan director also explained that the quality of the project has evolved rapidly since the first episode premiered earlier this year. According to Aronofsky, advances in AI models, improved production pipelines, and artists becoming more comfortable with the technology have significantly elevated the final output.
