Netflix’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth is being pegged as one of the most expensive and star-driven spin-offs in modern Hollywood, with Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino, and David Fincher collectively commanding more than $80 million in upfront fees, according to an analysis of the film’s finances by Puck’s Matt Belloni.

Pitt is reportedly earning around $40 million to reprise his role as Cliff Booth, while Tarantino is said to have been paid roughly $20 million to write the script and retain ownership of the underlying material. Fincher is being paid another $20 million to direct.

By comparison, these figures represent a significant jump from the trio’s recent headline paydays. Pitt’s last major leading roles in prestige films pulled substantial backend but rarely approached a guaranteed $40 million upfront, while Fincher historically earned big directorial fees plus backend rather than a pure $20 million check. Tarantino, for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, also walked away with a reported $20 million upfront and backend, so this Netflix deal replicates his loftiest payday while wrapping it into a streaming ecosystem.

While the financials are impressive, the film itself promises to expand on Cliff Booth's story afresh.

Booth’s story, beyond Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, as he operates in a sun-soaked, late-1970s Hollywood, teeters increasingly between stardom, crime, and counterculture chaos.
