Up to No Good has secured a royal upgrade with the addition of a Bridgerton fan favorite to its ensemble. The Channel 4 drama already boasted Glenn Close’s commanding glamour, yet producers clearly sought further prestige. With casting this deliberate, the title now feels delightfully misleading.

Up to No Good has decided restraint is unnecessary, adding Claudia Jessie, Penelope Wilton, and Meera Syal to a cast led by Glenn Close, Deadline reports. Channel 4 now has a drama that reads like an awards shortlist.

Claudia Jessie plays Hannah, a detective investigating a death in Maud’s building, with suspicion as her defining trait. Meera Syal appears as Margaret, while Penelope Wilton takes on the role of Charlotte, rounding out the central trio.

Deadline further confirmed that Gloria Obianyo, Anita Dobson, and Ben Crompton will be joining the thriller series as supporting players. With Lee Haven Jones directing and Nina Raine and Moses Raine writing, the series looks anything but careless.

The ensemble only sharpens the anticipation, leaving little doubt about the series’ ambitions.

Up to No Good arrives as a six-part Channel 4 dark comedy thriller fronted by Glenn Close, an eight-time Academy Award nominee who does not collect projects casually. According to Deadline, filming began in London in late 2024, which already places the series on a serious footing.

Formerly titled Maud, the series draws from Helene Tursten’s short stories about an elderly woman with lethal opinions. The literary origins promise precision, not indulgence, and a cruelty sharpened by wit.

Glenn Close plays Maud Oldcastle, an eighty-year-old with a history that refuses to stay buried. Having spent a lifetime serving others, Maud begins killing irritants methodically, until a determined detective threatens her carefully managed freedom.

Written by Nina Raine and Moses Raine and produced by Playground for Sony Pictures Television, the series signals discipline over chaos. This is mischief with structure, and menace delivered by professionals who know exactly what they are doing.
