Charlie Cox Details 20 Pounds of Muscle Gain in Six Weeks for 'Daredevil: Born Again'

Charlie Cox recently revealed he gained 20 pounds of muscle in just six weeks to prepare for Daredevil: Born Again. From Chris Evans becoming Captain America to Chris Pratt and Paul Rudd reshaping their bodies for superhero roles, the MCU has built a reputation for turning actors into comic-book physiques through strict regimens. Cox’s rapid transformation places him firmly within that tradition.

In a recent appearance on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy, Charlie Cox opened up about how physically grueling it was to return as Matt Murdock / Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again.

“When I got that job those first two months, and it was last-minute pretty much,” he said, “I didn’t have 8 months to prepare. I had 6 weeks, so I had to put on at least 20 lbs of muscle.”

For an actor who had previously been far from a gym habit, this meant an almost brutal crash course in strength and conditioning, with a tightly scheduled six‑week window to transform his frame into something that could believably power through the series’ punishing fight choreography.

Cox’s drastic ramp‑up contrasts sharply with his pre‑Daredevil lifestyle, which involved only occasional jogs and no formal weight training.

“Never been to the gym. Never had a gym membership in my life,” he recalled, describing how he suddenly went from casual fitness to living in the gym. By the time cameras rolled on Daredevil: Born Again, Cox’s body had changed enough for fans to notice him looking significantly more jacked in Season 2’s shirtless sequences, a shift widely attributed to his intense six‑week regime.

But while Cox reshaped his body for the role, the show itself continues to evolve in unexpected and spoiler-filled ways.

Daredevil: Born Again embraces leaks and bold story turns

Unlike many Marvel projects, Daredevil: Born Again has developed a reputation for being difficult to keep under wraps. Filming on the streets of New York City has made secrecy challenging, with set photos frequently revealing key details. One of the most intriguing developments involves the character Heather Glenn, played by Margarita Levieva.

Initially introduced as a grounded presence in Matt Murdock’s life, her arc has gradually taken a darker turn. Her connection to Bastian Cooper, portrayed by Hunter Doohan, has already hinted at deeper psychological layers. Recent set photos suggest that Heather may step into the role of Muse, adopting the villain’s signature look.

This shift aligns with comic lore, where the identity is not fixed to a single person. The series appears to be building toward a character-driven transformation rather than a simple reveal. By leaning into these evolving narratives, the show continues to balance street-level grit with psychological complexity. As anticipation builds, Daredevil: Born Again looks set to deliver both intense action and layered storytelling.
