The upcoming Street Fighter movie has brought together several high-profile names from wrestling and entertainment. Among them are WWE stars Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, cast as Guile and Akuma. Their real-life rivalry already carries history in the wrestling world. But on the film set, something unusual quietly happened.

Cody Rhodes revealed that the Street Fighter production crew deliberately kept him and Roman Reigns apart during filming.

“I think they thought we were going to fight or have issues for real,” Rhodes said on podcaster Chris Van Vliet’s show.

He then added, “they were very cognisant on the radios of us [and saying], 'Stepping out with Guile, Akuma will be coming on.’” explaining how the team carefully ensured the two rarely crossed paths.

The unusual precaution appears tied to the long WWE storyline rivalry between Rhodes and Reigns. Their conflict famously culminated at WrestleMania 40, where Rhodes defeated Reigns to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Despite the scripted history, Rhodes described their off-screen dynamic as complicated but respectful, saying he admires Reigns’ accomplishments yet still finds their relationship very strange whenever the subject arises.

While that awkward on-set distance sparked curiosity, Rhodes’ packed 2026 schedule shows his career expanding far beyond that moment.

Cody Rhodes’ 2026 mixes championships and Hollywood

Outside the film, Cody Rhodes is balancing a demanding year across wrestling and entertainment. He remains as the Undisputed WWE Champion heading into WrestleMania 42, where he is scheduled to defend the title against Randy Orton.

At the same time, Rhodes is expanding his media presence through his YouTube interview series What Do You Wanna Talk About?, which has already surpassed 59 million views in 2026.

Rhodes is also continuing television appearances on WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures while WWE builds future storylines around a possible rivalry with Jacob Fatu later this year.

In Hollywood, Street Fighter will mark his major film role as Guile ahead of the movie’s October 16, 2026, release. The project highlights how his wrestling success is increasingly opening doors in entertainment.
