Daniel Radcliffe was surprisingly not a stranger to the Harry Potter spoof on Saturday Night Live. Weeks earlier, Finn Wolfhard’s sketch had the internet buzzing, sharply dividing viewers, particularly over the wizard parody. As it turns out, Radcliffe was not entirely out of the loop.

Daniel Radcliffe told Rolling Stone India he had recently met Finn Wolfhard by chance, where the two chatted a bit. Shortly after that meeting, Wolfhard followed up directly, ensuring the Harry Potter parody did not arrive as a complete surprise.

“And then he texted me the day before it aired, being like, ‘Hey, just so you know, we’re doing a Harry Potter sketch,’” Radcliffe recalled. He confessed that some jokes passed quietly by him because he only knew a bit about Heated Rivalry, because of his girlfriend. Still, he found the sketch charming and generous in spirit.

“I’m always happy to see other versions of that,” Radcliffe said to Rolling Stone India. Parody, to him, is affection wearing a sharper suit. Even missed jokes can smile back when the intention is kind.

In the sketch, he spoke about defeating Voldemort and enduring broom injuries. The sketch highlighted deliberate self-ridicule rather than nostalgia. That confidence carried into his 2012 Saturday Night Live skit, where he hosted and openly toyed with his legacy.

From a washed-up Hogwarts graduate to deliberately ridiculous pitches, the sketches showed affection without nostalgia. By likening the franchise to the mafia, Daniel Radcliffe openly admitted with pride that there is no leaving Harry Potter behind.
