Ownership of the longstanding franchise holder, Lucasfilm, is at stake, once again after 14 years. The power shift now, however, might actually be in favor.

Kathleen Kennedy had first stepped onto the Lucasfilm pedestal in 2012, post Disney's acquisition of it. According to Puck News' surefire predictions for 2026, the avid watchers of Star Wars are faced with good news.

With Kennedy's tenure coming to a halt, Dave Filoni, the creative mastermind behind Star Wars, is stepping in. The change, however, might be welcomed, after the much-debated creative handling of 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

As a direct protégé of George Lucas, Filoni's takeover of Lucasfilm, as per Puck News, has added credibility. While Kennedy's presidency had seen good times, Star Wars seems to require a source as true as possible.

Filoni's creative control might bring back some of George Lucas' essence to his beloved franchises.

Before the Disneyfication of Lucasfilm

George Lucas founded Lucasfilm in 1971, primarily to house his Star Wars (1977) and Indiana Jones movies. After a longstanding relationship with Disney that manifested in collaborations, the latter took hold post-Lucas' partial retirement.

The acquisition grossed about $4.05 billion, including both of the long-running franchises as well as Lucasfilm's entertainment technologies. Since then, Rogue One, Solo: A Star Wars Story,  Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and The Mandalorian are some of the releases.

While Dave Filoni was already closely involved in Star Wars' creative production, his hold stands amplified for the future. His hat thrown in the mix might just bring back George Lucas' own creative spirit.
