For years, Spy x Family called the No. 1 spot home, sitting at the top of Japan’s mainstream manga charts like it belonged there. Even on April 13, 2026, Vol. 17 held that position, outselling every release in sight, including Dandadan. However, this winning streak was recently broken by Detective Conan.

Opening day numbers pushed the shift even further, as Detective Conan (aka Case Closed) surged ahead with 181,644 copies sold, opening up a gap of nearly 20,000 over Spy x Family Vol. 17, which landed at 161,753. That spike lines up with the explosive debut of its latest anime film, Fallen Angel on the Highway, which pulled in 1.13 billion yen ($7.1M) on opening day, breaking its previous 1.05 billion yen record and driving fresh momentum straight back to the manga shelves.

Shifting to the big screen, Fallen Angel on the Highway, the 29th feature film from Detective Conan, continues to break through with fresh records since its April 10 release. On opening day alone, the film ran 59 screenings at T-Joy Yokohama, surpassing the previous record set by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train.

As the story tightens its grip, Fallen Angel on the Highway feeds its momentum straight into Detective Conan Vol. 108, with Chihaya Hagiwara, the “goddess of the wind,” linking screen and page. As outlined by Oricon, the plot unfolds into a layered case where the Junior Detective League crosses paths with FBI agent Camel, drawing in figures tied to the Black Organization, including Kanenori Wakita.

Despite being dethroned, Spy x Family has never been easy to move, holding that spot firm for years without slipping even once.

Even after slipping from the top, Spy x Family continues to hold a scale few titles can match, with over 41 million copies in circulation and a presence that stretches far beyond print. Its anime has driven massive viewership, pulling nearly 10 million during key premieres and consistently topping streaming charts across platforms like Netflix Japan and Crunchyroll, while maintaining strong critical reception globally.

That dominance reflects in its numbers, as Volume 17 still moved over 161,000 copies in a single week, holding firm at No. 2, while the franchise’s film ‘Code: White’ pushed its reach even further with nearly $95 million worldwide. From manga pages to global screens, Spy x Family’s grip remains intact, even as the charts briefly shift.

While Spy x Family still holds its own spotlight even after slipping from No. 1, Detective Conan continues to surge ahead, carrying a fandom that shows no signs of slowing down.
