Saturday Night Live has mastered political satire for decades, but its boldest swings often backfire spectacularly. A similar swing has been aimed at UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer by the newly launched SNL UK. And while it may or may not have earned a thumbs-up from Starmer, it certainly earned the approval of US President Donald Trump.

President Trump recently shared a clip from SNL UK’s debut on his Truth Social account. The show’s first sketch features George Fouracres as a jittery Keir Starmer, sweating over how to tell Trump that the UK will not tag along for any conflict action. Advisers try to build his courage, but he chickens out on the phone call, blurting that the president is “scary, scary wonderful” and too tough to handle.

Rather than making the call directly, Starmer’s aide suggests sending a voice note, referencing events from D-Day and the Friends storyline involving Ross and Rachel. Trump did not include a caption or comment when sharing the SNL UK clip, but his post could nonetheless add to the ongoing tension between the two leaders.

SNL UK takes a wild swing at Hamnet

SNL UK aimed at the awards darling Hamnet, Chloé Zhao’s poignant take on Shakespeare’s family life, with a chaotic sketch featuring a Shakespeare too vain to return his wife’s affections. In the sketch, Fouracres’s William Shakespeare travels to London to launch his plays and returns increasingly flamboyant. He totes modern absurdities, blending Elizabethan drama with Gen Z flair for a surreal culture roast. The bit mocks Britain’s obsession with prestige films.

From the UK Prime Minister to the nation’s iconic poet, SNL UK spared no one in its sketches. Donald Trump may have given it a nod, but whether SNL UK can reach the same heights as its US counterpart remains to be seen. Either way, it sure is making waves globally.
