With a new journey through Middle-earth on the horizon, the excitement around The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum has once again stirred the world of rings and shadows. As speculation grows around the return of its most iconic face, Frodo Baggins, the hobbit who once carried the fate of the One Ring, Elijah Wood finds himself back in the spotlight, this time sharing his wish list for what Frodo’s return could look like.
After being spotted addressing the possible return of Frodo, Elijah Wood continues to keep the conversation alive around the beloved hobbit in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. While speaking with ScreenTime, when asked what he would want to see if Frodo returns, Wood leaned into a more unexpected idea, noting that the character has never been much of a fighter and adding that it would be fun to see him caught in some kind of skirmish.
“He doesn’t get too much fighting, so it would be quite fun to see Frodo involved in some sort of skirmish,” Wood told ScreenTime.
Adding further, he also shared that though he is not sure if that would actually happen, the idea itself is something he quickly finds exciting. However, the legacy that traces back to The Hobbit continues to shape the anticipation, as the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum aims to bridge the narrative gap between the Hobbit trilogy and the original films, deepening excitement around what awaits in Middle-earth.
Meanwhile, fans continue to wonder whether Elijah Wood himself will return as Frodo, eagerly waiting to see if he will once again step into the iconic role if the character returns to the screen.
Will Elijah Wood reprise his iconic Frodo role?
Since Elijah Wood’s journey as the beloved hobbit began in 2001, the name Frodo Baggins has remained inseparable from his face in the minds of fans. With The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum already on the horizon, speculation around the character’s return has only intensified. Addressing these rumours, Wood, while speaking with The Times, shared that as long as he is alive, he wouldn’t want anyone else to play Frodo, making it clear that if the character returns, it should be him stepping back into the role.
"I certainly wouldn’t want anybody else to play Frodo either as long as I’m alive and able," Wood said.
As The Hunt for Gollum is expected to arrive in December 2027, several familiar faces are also expected to return, including Ian McKellen reprising his role as Gandalf, while Andy Serkis returns to direct and once again step into the role of Gollum.
However, while Frodo’s return remains unconfirmed, if Elijah Wood’s wish list is anything to go by, the beloved hobbit’s comeback could arrive with a far more unexpected and powerful edge.
