Bulgaria has officially won the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, marking the country’s first-ever victory in the competition after more than two decades of participation. Bulgarian singer DARA's 'Bangaranga' secured the historic win on Saturday night in Vienna with her song beating Israel’s Noam Bettan and Romania’s Alexandra Căpitănescu in a dramatic finish.

“Feeling that everybody gets in themselves the moment you choose to lead through love and not fear.” Speaking during the finals, the singer described the meaning behind 'Bangaranga' as DARA’s entry dominated both the jury vote and the public vote, ultimately collecting 516 points to secure Bulgaria’s long-awaited Eurovision breakthrough.

The historic win comes after years of near misses for Bulgaria, which first entered Eurovision in 2005 but had only reached the final stage a handful of times before finally clinching the title this year.

While Bulgaria’s victory became the biggest headline of the night, the Eurovision finale itself unfolded as one of the competition’s most dramatic in recent memory.

Why Eurovision 2026 turned into such a dramatic final?

Saturday’s final in Vienna quickly evolved into a nail-biting contest between Bulgaria and Israel, with Noam Bettan’s song 'Michelle' briefly surging into the lead during the public voting phase after placing eighth in jury scores. The tension escalated right until the final moments, when Bulgaria’s tally ultimately pushed DARA into first place.

This year’s competition also arrived amid political tensions surrounding Israel’s participation. Following ongoing backlash and boycott calls tied to the conflict in Gaza, several countries reportedly declined to participate in Eurovision 2026. During the finale, Bettan’s appearance sparked both boos and chants of solidarity from parts of the audience, reflecting the increasingly political atmosphere surrounding the competition in recent years.

Rounding out the top five this year were Romania, Australia and Italy, while Finland, Denmark, Moldova, Ukraine and Greece completed the rest of the top ten. Following Eurovision tradition, Bulgaria will now host next year’s competition after securing its first-ever title.
