People We Meet on Vacation has paved a little more of the way for the romance-comedy genre. However, for some of the audience, it might be just a step rather than a pave.

Netflix announced the adaptation of a romance novel by Emily Henry in 2024. Come January 9, 2026, the streamer released People We Meet on Vacation, starring Tom Blyth and Emily Bader, but not to everyone's pleasant surprise.

"They missed the whole depth of the book. It was so shallow," said a watcher on X. As per public opinion, People We Meet on Vacation could have done better, or rather, been adapted better in the first place.

The plot of the movie follows Poppy and Alex's epiphanic nth vacation together, just like in the book. The film spans the source's overall plot, starting from the beginning of Alex and Poppy's friendship, up to their love-life-changing reunion in Barcelona.

Part of the audience, however, seemed to be in search of a little more between the lines.

The People We Meet on Vacation that did not make the cut

Several of Netflix and Emily Henry's fans took to X for a rundown on the missing depth of the film. Where the characters were visible, they did not seem present in spirit, according to them.

Emily Henry's version of the story is yet to be done justice, according to this part of the audience.

People We Meet on Vacation received a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While the film may not be the entire Netflix hall's cup of tea, it has a decent taste to be sipped on.
