Far Cry’s newest television twist has already jolted the fandom, after showrunner Noah Hawley confirmed the live-action series will use an anthology format and adapt none of the existing games. As one of gaming’s most ferocious empires, built on tyrants, rebellions, collapsing nations, and beautifully controlled chaos, the Ubisoft giant now appears ready to gamble on an entirely new battlefield. But can a Far Cry show thrive without touching the legends that built it?

Recently speaking to Deadline, Hawley said Far Cry lured him through its fearless reinvention, with each installment unleashing a fresh world of tyrants and survival. He noted that the same ever-shifting pulse powered his acclaimed Fargo run, signalling the Far Cry TV Series could follow a similar anthology path with changing settings each season. Rather than chain himself, Hawley intends to dissect the franchise’s core DNA and forge his own vision, arguing that gameplay progression and skippable cutscenes often weaken the human drama on screen.

“When you play a video game, you only really move forward through the gameplay section, and then you have these cut scenes that you can skip, so when you go to adapt those games, you have to be aware that makes the human drama kind of irrelevant to the storyline. That is death for a show, Hawley told Deadline.

First unveiled in November 2025, the live-action Far Cry TV Series was announced with Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney attached as executive producers, instantly giving the project heavyweight television firepower. Set to stream on Hulu through its FX partnership, the series stands among gaming’s most closely watched upcoming adaptations.

And while the Far Cry TV Series cast stays in the shadows, Hawley is already heading back to 2120 with the Xenomorph terror of Alien: Earth.

Crawling into the ranks of the world’s most-watched titles after its August 2025 debut, Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth became FX’s biggest streaming launch ever, reportedly crossing 100 million viewing hours. Recently speaking to Deadline, Hawley confirmed that season two cameras will roll this summer, with production beginning in May 2026 at Pinewood Studios after the team shifted filming from Thailand. For Hawley, the move carries extra legacy weight, as the legendary studio once housed Alien, Alien 2, Alien 3, and Prometheus.

Eyes are now turning to what comes next, with Alien: Earth season two expected to arrive in late 2026 or 2027. Peter Dinklage has meanwhile joined in a major series-regular role, while the story is now set to expand beyond island containment into a far larger corporate hellscape. Hawley has further teased stronger ties to Alien, with a new menace known as “The Eye,” inhabiting Arthur Sylvia’s body, also expected to cast a dark shadow over the next chapter.

As Hawley readies Alien: Earth season two, all eyes may soon turn to whether he can unleash that same fire on Far Cry TV Series.
