5 TV Characters With the Most Insufferable Dislike for Christmas

Television has delivered every Christmas cliché imaginable, from heartwarming reunions to over-the-top decorations. Yet, amid the eggnog and mistletoe, some characters are downright allergic to holiday cheer. These festive foes do not just dislike Christmas; they actively make it miserable for everyone else.

Here are 5 TV characters with holiday pet peeves that will make you feel not-so-merry.

5. Sheldon Cooper

Sheldon Cooper turns even Christmas into a complex scientific experiment, one gone terribly wrong at that. Gift-giving to the Big Bang Theory tyrant is less about joy and more about an exhausting social obligation.

Perhaps it is his hyper-logical mind that rejected the emotional chaos, especially after the incident of Santa not bringing his precious grandfather, or Pop-Pop, back to him.

4. Frank Costanza

There are patrons of art and celebrations, and then there is Frank Costanza in Seinfeld. His inability to stomach commercialism and holiday fuss had been so prevalent that he had gone ahead and invented Festivus: a celebration with no glitter, only a bare pole and airing of grievances.

His explosive outbursts and anti-Christmas rituals had, however, been slightly over the top. Ludicrous enough to become comedy gold, yet it left a dent in the celebrations on screen for sure.

3. Donna Noble

Donna Noble’s Christmas disdain in Doctor Who had been less theatrical and more a tiredness from joy.

Introduced to the screen while fleeing her own wedding set on a Christmas Eve, Donna made it apparent that she would rather be on a Moroccan honeymoon than at frosty festivities, which could not make a cut as a justifiable reason, in exaction.

2. Dr. Cox

Scrubs brought a scathing edge to Christmas with Dr. Cox’s misery. His disdain had been laced with barbed jokes and a palpable grief tucked beneath the sarcasm.

While he remained that guy in the hospital hallway who sneers at carolers and has zero patience for holiday cheer, there was still some substance coming from childhood trauma to his dislike for the festival. And to actually wrap it all up, right when you think the holiday spirit has peaked, there comes the Grinch in a tracksuit.

1. Sue Sylvester

Sue Sylvester takes the cake as the ultimate Christmas loather, with an aversion so strong it defied any traces in the show. On Glee, she had ruthlessly rigged Secret Santas and ruined holiday decorations, actively sabotaging festive fun for no apparent reason.

Despite occasionally softening, shown when she would be seen feeding the needy or decorating a friend’s house, the lack of a clear backstory to her pet peeve made her antics all the more maddening and memorably insufferable as TV’s Queen Grinch.

By being insufferable Christmas haters, they make the festive moments shine even brighter. After all, what is Christmas without a little well-placed grumpiness?
