Friends is a show that millions of viewers hold close to their hearts, and Lisa Kudrow shares that same enduring affection. Even decades after its finale, Friends continues to charm audiences with its 90s aesthetic, relatable early adulthood struggles, and timeless humor. It is exactly why Kudrow never passes up a chance to dive back into the sitcom.

Lisa Kudrow revealed on CBS Sunday that she never experienced the phase of feeling she had done enough with Friends or wanting to move on from the show. She explained in the episode, that will air on March 22, that she feels so because the sitcom gave her a uniquely fulfilling experience.

"Friends gave me everything," Lisa Kudrow explained. She added that she never felt the need to distance herself from the series because she absolutely loved portraying Phoebe Buffay.

Unlike some actors who worry about being defined by a single role, she embraced it, finding the character’s humor, quirks, and warmth completely irresistible. In fact, the actress noted that she does not mind if audiences primarily know her as Phoebe, even if they have not seen her other projects, because the role continues to offer lasting fulfillment.

On that note, few would be surprised that Kudrow treasures Phoebe, given how much of her own quirks and soul shaped the role.

How Lisa Kudrow added to Phoebe's whimsy

In a Variety Actors on Actors interview, Lisa Kudrow explained that she justified everything Phoebe said in her head to make the character’s eccentricities feel real to the audience.

Kudrow based Phoebe’s floaty optimism on a college friend who remained positive despite personal setbacks, as she explained to the Television Academy Foundation. This helped her portray Phoebe’s traumatic past, including living in the streets, without pity, giving the character a resilient, humorous perspective.

Her scientific background in education may have also allowed her to bring analytical depth to Phoebe, threading logic into her eccentricities. Thanks to Kudrow's spirited improvisations, the sitcom gained fresh depth, making it easy to see why the actress adores it.
