Harry Potter season 1 brings Hogwarts magic to the screen

Harry Potter season 1 is set to premiere on HBO in early 2027, with filming that began in July 2025 expected to finish by mid-2026. The eight-episode season will cover the full story of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, bringing J.K. Rowling’s first novel to life with a careful mix of young talent and familiar adult actors.

The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Warwick Davis returning as Flitwick.

Season 2 writing has already started to ensure continuity. In contrast, the first season showcases Hogwarts’ four houses in vivid detail, combining Quidditch drama, house rivalries, and the start of Harry Potter’s magical journey.
