One may have the idea to savor however many Oscar nominations they receive, all for themselves. Jacob Elordi, on the other hand, not only shares but consecrates his very first to none other than Heath Ledger.

The soulful gaze that made Guillermo del Toro cast Jacob Elordi as The Creature has earned the actor an Oscar nomination as well. On January 22, 2026, Elordi was selected to contend for the Best Supporting Actor Award for the first time.

Despite the role being one part of the 2025 film, Frankenstein, Elordi has divided his gratitude into two. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, fresh after the nomination, the actor profusely thanked the late fellow Australian actor, Heath Ledger, for the achievement.

"It really was a dream of mine, particularly because of Heath Ledger. He showed me that it was possible," he said on the late-night show. In addition, he also mentioned how his nomination has come exactly 18 years after Ledger's passing.

Moreover, Heath Ledger's blessing has given Elordi more than just an Oscar nomination.

While not his first time, Frankenstein has also landed Jacob Elordi with a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Right before this prestige, Elordi has already bagged a Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actor.

While his portfolio spans a wide range since his debut as an extra in 2017, numbers like Frankenstein, Saltburn, and Priscilla have given more structure to his body of work in recent years. His next role as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights is now proving to be his next most anticipated venture.

Jacob Elordi is now set to become the second youngest person to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, if he does. His poignant portrayal of The Creature seems to be Heath Ledger's doing, after all.
