Henry Cavill's 'Highlander' Has Echoes of Signature John Wick Style

Henry Cavill, known for playing Superman and Geralt of Rivia, is no stranger to the action world, having already proven his command over intensity through the years. And yet, as Hollywood’s 2026 slate, his next film is shaping up to be something far more defining. Because this time, Cavill’s return to the blade is not just another action role, but a shift that is already drawing attention for echoing a signature John Wick style.

Cavill’s Highlander reboot got its first look during Amazon MGM’s presentation at CinemaCon, the annual convention for theatre owners held in Las Vegas. While filming is still underway, the footage showcased brutal, tightly choreographed action, including a neon-drenched rave fight, sword combat, and motorcycle chases, all echoing the signature style of Chad Stahelski’s John Wick, directly aligning with the film’s action-driven reimagining.

The film follows Cavill as Connor MacLeod, an immortal born in 1518, destined to fight other undying warriors in The Gathering, where only one survivor can remain. A reboot of the original Highlander starring Christopher Lambert, the new film expands its scale across locations like the Scottish Highlands, Poland, and Hong Kong, setting up a global, high-stakes battle across time.

Meanwhile, after the original Highlander, the franchise expanded into multiple sequels, along with an animated series and several spin-off novels, though most follow-ups received largely negative reviews. Cavill’s reboot now marks the first return of Highlander to the big screen since Highlander: Endgame, setting the stage for a long-awaited revival of the cult action saga.

While the exact release date for Cavill’s upcoming action thriller remains under wraps, the actor is already gearing up to hit the screens with In the Grey ahead of Highlander.

Henry Cavill’s another action thriller, In the Grey

Aimed at the 2026 action film slate, In the Grey steps in as a sharp, eye-catching action thriller directed by Guy Ritchie, with Henry Cavill leading the charge. The film follows a group of elite operatives navigating a moral grey zone as they take on a mission to recover a billion-dollar fortune from a ruthless despot.

With its official trailer already released on March 9, 2026, showcasing high-octane action including shootouts, explosions, and Ritchie’s signature quick-witted dialogue, In the Grey is set for a theatrical release on May 15, 2026.

Joining Cavill, the film also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, along with supporting names like Rosamund Pike and Kristofer Hivju. Filming took place in Tenerife, with the project marking another collaboration between Cavill and Guy Ritchie after The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

However, while Cavill’s In the Grey is almost at the door, it is Highlander that has already begun pulling attention, with its John Wick-style action shaping up as a major draw for fans.
