One of Amazon’s hottest IPs, The Boys, is in its endgame now, and with five seasons to account for the saga, a question still burns a hole in the viewers’ minds - who would win in a Homelander vs Soldier Boy clash? The answer to this question is not a straightforward one, and that is exactly why it is the most debated one in the verse.
On one hand, we have the biggest and baddest member of the original batch of supes, Soldier Boy, having the V1 running through their veins, making him literally indestructible, and hence, immortal. On the other corner of the ring, there is Homelander - the upgraded and undeniably better version of the supe from the 50’s made from his own DNA. So, what is all the confusion about if Homelander is the improved blueprint of his old man?
As it turns out, despite Homelander possessing laser vision, indestructible skin, superspeed, and the ability to fly, he cannot punch or laser his way through Soldier Boy. Plus, Soldier can match or even one-up him in close-range hand-to-hand combat, which means he can dominate Homelander tactfully. But this does not hold true for brute strength.
If the fight in Herogasm were to be taken as an example here, at some moments, Homelander overpowered Soldier Boy. However, some argue that he was already weakened by using his chest blast. In another instance in that same episode, Homelander is seen having trouble knocking out Billy Butcher, who keeps on smiling with each punch. In the finale of the same season, Soldier Boy knocked Butcher out swiftly with one blow.
So, who comes out on top if they are almost evenly matched in strength?
Who is the ultimate winner between Homelander and Soldier Boy?
It depends on the scenario of the battle, mainly. If the fight is a close-range one, then Soldier Boy might have an edge. But if it is a long-distance fight where lasers and projectiles are used, Homelander might actually win this by a hair. But Soldier Boy still has one ace up his sleeve.
Remember, the chest blast that makes him weak for a moment is also the thing that might lead to Homelander’s fall. The chest beam has the ability to take away the powers of any supe, regardless of how powerful they might be. So, if Soldier Boy somehow manages to blast him off and knock his powers out, he might end it once and for all.
Still, there is a snag considering Homelander’s superspeed and flight capabilities, which makes it easier for him to dodge the beam that takes its sweet time to get charged. So, ultimately, the winner will be decided based on the circumstances of the fight and not the skills or power. But Soldier Boy comes out on top in this discussion only because he can actually kill Homelander, and the other way around is not possible since Soldier Boy is practically immortal.
