As one of the most dangerous antagonists in the Star Wars universe, Darth Maul rises once again, stepping out of the shadows with his double-bladed lightsaber and carrying forward an unfinished story that continues to haunt the galaxy in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. Meanwhile, the story around him seems to be taking an unexpected turn, as Maul’s long-time voice artist Sam Witwer has opened up about the blade-wielder’s potential in a video game. And as the Star Wars antagonist finally moves closer to a story of his own. Could he also be getting a video game to match?

Recently, while speaking with DiscussingFilm, American actor and voice artist Witwer revisited the Darth Maul game that entered development nearly 15 years ago and admitted that a modern video game centred on the character still holds strong potential, calling it an incredible story waiting to be told. However, while there are no confirmed plans for such a project in the immediate future, at least over the next couple of years, his remarks strongly suggest that the possibility of a Maul-led video game is far from over.

“I’ve become convinced we could do an incredible story, yeah,” Witwer told DiscussingFilm.

Following his remarks, fans flooded discussion threads with reactions, turning the conversation into a wave of excitement around the character. Many declared that “Maul deserves his own game,” while others insisted it would easily become a bestseller, as the fandom pushed for the Shadow Lord to finally take centre stage in gaming.

While a Darth Maul video game is yet to take shape, the dangerous antagonist has already begun his long-awaited path of revenge in the recently released Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.

Darth Maul returns to take his revenge in Shadow Lord

Recently released on Disney+ on April 6, 2026, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord steps into a darker phase of the Star Wars timeline, set in the aftermath of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and unfolding nearly a year after the fall of the Jedi. Created by Dave Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, the series bridges the gap between The Clone Wars and Solo: A Star Wars Story, as Darth Maul attempts to rebuild his Shadow Collective on the neon-lit planet Janix, a city still largely untouched by the Empire.

The series unfolds across a 10-episode first season, with two episodes dropping weekly until May 4, while placing Maul at the centre of a growing conflict shaped by new and returning characters. The series brings together a strong voice cast led by Sam Witwer as Darth Maul, alongside new characters including a fugitive Jedi Padawan, a local detective and his droid partner, and Imperial Inquisitors who begin closing in as Maul’s influence rises.

And as Darth Maul begins his path of revenge in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, fans still have to wait a little longer to see the Shadow Lord rise in a video game.
