Just as jokes about AI and futuristic tech echoed through Hollywood during the recent Academy Awards 2026, a new adventure seems ready to push the idea further with a technologically advanced spy dog, sneaking its way into the summer 2027 action-comedy slate. Leading the charge, director Leo Zhang is teaming up with martial-arts icon Jackie Chan, hinting at another explosive collaboration on the horizon.

Set to begin production in September 2026, action legend Jackie Chan and director Leo Zhang have officially teamed up for the upcoming action comedy Pawfect Agents. In a recent interview with Variety, Zhang shared that the film stands out as Chan steps into an entirely new kind of partnership.

“What makes the film unique is that Jackie Chan steps into an entirely new kind of partnership," Zhang told Variety.

Adding to the conversation, Zhang explained that, unlike many of Jackie Chan’s classic films, where he teams up with human partners, this time he pairs Chan with a group of animal agents brought to life through a blend of live action and CG.

With international sales company Cappu Films handling pre-sales and presenting the project to buyers at Hong Kong FilMart, the production has also secured rare access to two major international landmarks, the Palace of Versailles and the National Museum of Qatar, where the team even completed a scene scan inside the iconic Hall of Mirrors.

Following a veteran agent on the verge of retirement who jumps back into action when an international theft operation targets the Sanxingdui Golden Mask, one of China’s prized national treasures, the action comedy Pawfect Agents sets off a globe-trotting mission.

Teaming up with a technologically advanced spy dog, the reluctant hero launches a high-stakes chase from Europe back to China, racing through a visually striking CG animal universe crafted by contemporary artist Li Erpeng, whose work has appeared at Art Basel and in the collection of White Rabbit Gallery.

However, with the rest of the cast yet to be unveiled, director Leo Zhang is developing and producing the project with key partners LinKEY Sanxing Film and Shangjia Film, further expanding the scale of the upcoming action-comedy adventure.

As the idea itself continues to spark excitement, Jackie Chan’s reunion with Leo Zhang after Bleeding Steel already suggests Pawfect Agents could become the next big action-comedy to watch.
