Jake Paul had the most wholesome response to Olivia Rodrigo poking fun at him during her Saturday Night Live hosting debut on May 2, 2026. The singer took aim at her former Disney co-star right in her opening monologue. The joke landed hard, the crowd laughed, but his reply came straight from a place of genuine admiration and fond memories.
During her opening segment on Saturday Night Live, Olivia Rodrigo recalled their Disney days, joking that Jake Paul once dreamed of beating up old guys on Netflix while she wanted to make meaningful music. She used the comparison to highlight their wildly different career paths, and it got a big laugh. Paul, however, took it all in stride, responding with nothing but warmth and nostalgia.
"We had the vision. I told you that you would sell stadiums out and then we both did," Paul wrote on X, responding directly to Rodrigo's Saturday Night Live monologue.
He then added, "proud of you fr," emphasizing that no joke could shake his genuine admiration for her success.
This Saturday Night Live appearance was Rodrigo's first time pulling double duty as both host and musical guest. She had previously appeared on the show as a musical guest in 2021, performing 'drivers license' and 'good 4 u,' and again in 2023 with 'vampire' and 'all-american b****.' Her May 2 episode marked a major step up, with Rodrigo now fully owning the stage in a role that very few artists get to take on so early in their careers.
While Rodrigo took over Saturday Night Live solo, the story between her and Paul actually started years ago on a Disney set.
Jake Paul and Olivia Rodrigo's Bizaardvark days
Before either of them became household names, Jake Paul and Olivia Rodrigo were co-stars on the Disney Channel sitcom Bizaardvark, which ran from 2016 to 2019. The show followed two best friends running a comedy vlog channel. Paul played the fan-favorite character Dirk, while Rodrigo was part of the main cast as a younger performer navigating the entertainment world for the first time.
Paul was fired from Disney in 2017 amid issues surrounding his conduct, which cut his time on Bizaardvark short. Rodrigo reportedly showed support for him at the time, but the two have not maintained a visible public friendship since then. There is no indication of regular contact, just warm memories of a shared chapter. Paul's gracious Saturday Night Live response proves that sometimes, a little nostalgia is enough to keep things genuinely kind.
