Jake Paul's boxing future suddenly looks far more fragile after his brutal knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in December 2025. The social media star-turned-boxer revealed that his double-fractured jaw is still recovering, while doctors remain uncertain whether he will ever be medically cleared to fight again. And now, with retirement no longer off the table, Paul’s once-unshakable rise inside the ring appears to be hanging by a thread.
Speaking about his condition on the Ariel Helwani show, Paul shared that upcoming scans will determine if his jaw has healed properly enough for sparring or professional competition. He also revealed he may need dental implants after losing a tooth during the brutal bout. While recovery has slowly improved week by week, he admitted that retirement is now “definitely in the realm of possibility.”
“I’m getting some new scans in a couple of days, of the jaw, to get an update on the healing process. We’ll see what the doctors say. I think I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility," Paul said.
The injury came after Anthony Joshua stopped Paul in the sixth round of their controversial heavyweight clash, a bout many critics had already branded dangerously uneven because of the massive gap in size, power, and experience between the two fighters. Still, despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Paul insists he has unfinished business inside the ring. And if doctors eventually clear him to fight again, the 29-year-old appears far from ready to walk away from boxing completely.
While doctors now question whether Paul can ever fight again, his rise inside boxing had already rewritten influencer sports culture forever.
