Jennifer Lopez is currently on the promotional run for her new rom-com, Office Romance, with her co-star Brett Goldstein. The singer-actress has been a force to reckon with in both the music and film worlds and has built a successful career on her multiple talents. During her acting career spanning almost four decades, she has been a part of several memorable projects like Anaconda, The Boy Next Door, The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, and many more. But there were some projects that she wanted to be a part of, but they could not happen.
Remembering one such incident, Lopez spoke about the main role in the rom-com The Proposal that eventually ended up with Sandra Bullock. During a promotional visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show for her upcoming rom-com Office Romance, Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein were playing a rapid-fire game of "Rom-Com This or That." The game featured some of the classics of the genre, like Crazy, Stupid, Love, 27 Dresses, Monster-in-Law, Notting Hill, etc.
Among the entries was The Proposal, which starred Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in the main leads. As soon as the movie came, Lopez was taken back in time, and she almost immediately blurted out that she loved the movie and that she had read the script of the film, insinuating that she wanted to do the film.
“I love The Proposal. I wanted to do The Proposal. I remember reading the script for The Proposal,” Lopez said.
The revelation has sent everyone who loved the film in retrospect, imagining what it would be like if Jennifer Lopez had played the part. It is not to indicate that Sandra Bullock was not phenomenal in the role. But one could not help but wonder what difference the singer-actress could have brought to the film.
However, she has also snagged some of the roles that Bullock wanted to play in the past.
Jennifer Lopez roles that Sandra Bullock wanted to play
The 1998 movie Out of Sight, starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez in central roles, was an amazing movie. And that is exactly what Sandra Bullock thought when she first read the script. Except, instead of Lopez, she was imagining herself opposite Clooney. In a 2013 interview with Yahoo! Movies, Bullock revealed that she even threatened to break their friendship if she did not get the role.
“They didn’t want me for the film [Out Of Sight] and I was like, ‘Oh, our friendship is so over,’” said Bullock.
The role eventually went to Lopez, and Bullock just had to make peace with the decision. Her working relationship with Clooney remained the same. Another movie that Bullock was supposed to do but went to Lopez was the 2002 thriller/crime drama, Enough. But unlike the 1998 movie, this time there was no competition. Sandra Bullock herself left the movie due to scheduling issues, and hence, Lopez entered as her replacement. Thus, Lopez got Bullock’s two in return for The Proposal.
