Taylor Swift has dropped an original song and music video for Pixar's Toy Story 5, and it is already breaking hearts on the internet. The track, 'I Knew It, I Knew You,' is a country-tinged, emotionally loaded tribute to one of the franchise's most beloved characters. Jessie has never looked more like the main character, because in this film, she absolutely is.

Taylor Swift's music video for 'I Knew It, I Knew You' places Jessie at the centre of the Toy Story universe like never before. It compiles the cowgirl's most iconic moments. Starting with blazing horseback rides, a garbage truck near-miss, and emotional flashbacks to her original owner, Emily. A budding romance with Buzz Lightyear makes an appearance, too. Co-written with Jack Antonoff, the track marks a deliberate return to Swift's country roots.

The song was born from genuine childhood adoration. Swift revealed she has dreamed of writing for these characters since she was five years old, sharing a personal video of herself dressed as a cowgirl to mark the announcement. She and Antonoff crafted the track with deep affection for the franchise's core themes of friendship, loss, and growing up. The result is expected to soundtrack a key emotional Jessie sequence in the film, echoing Sarah McLachlan's legendary 'When She Loved Me' from Toy Story 2.

The film brings back the full original ensemble, with Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie, whose arc takes centre stage this time around. Greta Lee voices Lilypad, the disruptive tablet threatening to make traditional toys obsolete. New additions include Conan O'Brien, Keanu Reeves, Bad Bunny, and Craig Robinson, rounding out a cast that balances nostalgia with fresh energy.

While the cast is stacked, the story driving Toy Story 5 is far more emotionally ambitious than anyone expected.

Toy Story 5 plot and what Jessie's arc means for the franchise

Toy Story 5 releases in theatres on June 19, 2026, following a Los Angeles premiere on June 9. Directed by Andrew Stanton, the film picks up after Toy Story 4, with Woody and the gang reunited in Bonnie's room. The central conflict pits traditional toys against a sleek tablet called Lilypad, tackling themes of obsolescence and screen addiction. Jessie's storyline goes deepest, revisiting her abandonment history through flashbacks to her original owner, Emily.

Taylor Swift's involvement was teased weeks before the official announcement, after a Toy Story-themed countdown accidentally appeared on her website on April 30. Pixar's social media subtly kept the speculation alive until Swift relaunched the countdown, making the collaboration near-official. Early box office tracking projects a massive domestic opening weekend of over 150 million dollars, potentially the biggest of 2026. Jessie finally has her moment, and Swift made sure it would be unforgettable.
