Chaos at the Monaco Grand Prix weekend was not limited to screeching tires and split-second overtakes. It spilled straight into the nightlife, too. During a high-profile club event billed as a joint night with John Summit and Travis Scott, the dance-floor euphoria gave way to confusion, viral clips, and a DJ set cut short. As it turns out, the drama at Monaco did not just happen on track, but far beyond the circuit’s tight corners. And now, John Summit has directly addressed what went down during his June 7 performance at Lilly’s Club Monte Carlo. In an Instagram Story, the producer set the tone by writing.
"Monaco, that was insane last night. Last night was out of control. My show got shut down due to another artist showing up late and forcing his way onto the stage," he wrote on his Instagram story. From his perspective, what fans saw online of Travis Scott arriving late, climbing onto the DJ booth, and launching into his own performance mid-set translated into a derailed night for the headlining DJ who had already built the energy in the room.
Summit leaned into his own catalog to underline the frustration, posting a clip of himself dropping his hit “Go Back” with the caption. “I wanna go back (onstage to finish my performance).” The irony was not lost: a song about wanting to return became a pointed comment about being yanked off mid-groove.
While Travis Scott’s team has yet to comment about what Summit shared on his Instagram story, he is already moving forward, continuing his packed summer schedule with a residency in Ibiza, major European festivals, and a North American arena tour later this year. How do you think this kind of onstage clash could affect the way artists share festival or club lineups in the future?
The Monaco incident was not the only time a Travis Scott collaboration has recently gone sideways for a fellow artist.
Travis Scott’s recent collaborations face mounting disruptions across Europe
In Reggio Emilia, a much larger collaboration involving Kanye West collapsed before it could begin. Authorities intervened and canceled two major concerts over concerns related to security and public order. Local officials pulled the plug on back-to-back shows scheduled for July 17 and 18 at the RCF Arena.
The decision came from prefect Salvatore Angieri, who cited risks tied to potential counter-protests following objections from advocacy groups and members of the local community. What was meant to anchor the Pulse of Gaia Festival instead became a flashpoint amid growing tensions.
The fallout extends beyond a single event, reflecting wider resistance to West’s planned European appearances. Countries including France and the United Kingdom have signaled willingness to block shows or entry, while other dates remain on track in parts of Europe. The situation highlights a divided landscape where demand and controversy continue to collide across the live music circuit.
What do you think about John Summit’s response and the growing pattern of disrupted shows? Let us know in the comments.
