Katy Perry is all set to add fireworks to the USA’s opening match against Paraguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FIFA plans to stage opening ceremonies at each of the World Cup's opening matches involving host nations this summer. The esteemed international football organization has scheduled a list of performers to play before kickoff in the opening games, which will feature hosts Canada, Mexico, and the United States, according to sources as reported by The Athletic.
Among the famous names are Canadian musicians Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, and Alessia Cara, who are anticipated to shine and dazzle the crowds in Canada's opening group stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 13 in Toronto. Katy Perry will be the main act when the US men's national team plays Paraguay later that day at SoFi Stadium, which is close to Los Angeles.
Katy Perry is no stranger to headlining sports events and has done so in many global sports events. Due to her headline appearances at important sporting events, the latest of which was the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2026, Katy Perry has garnered media attention. Excitement and controversy have frequently greeted her concerts, which reflects the range of responses to her songs and her persona.
She has also headlined other major events like the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025, Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final 2024, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final 2020, and the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show 2015. Now, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony joins this list.
FIFA, however, has tabbed many more behemoths of pop culture to headline various other matches of the coveted tournament.
A slew of bigwigs performing on the FIFA stage
Rapper Future and Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy are two other American talents apart from Katy Perry that FIFA has roped in. FIFA has also signed Lisa, a Thai rapper and vocalist who rose to fame with the South Korean girl group Blackpink. Paraguay, the USMNT's rivals, will also be represented by Marilina Bogado, a Paraguayan musician.
Pop sensation Alejandro Fernández, vocalist Belinda, and the multi-Grammy-winning Mexican rock group Maná will all play in the Mexico vs. South Africa match on June 11. Moreover, Los Ángeles Azules, who perform traditional Mexican cumbia music, have also joined the tournament. Tyla, a singer-songwriter from South Africa, will also be performing.
There is also a roster of international artists, such as Colombian J Balvin, Brazilian Anitta, Venezuelan Danny Ocean, Palestinian-Chilean performer Elyanna, and French Vegedream, who will be distributed throughout the events. William Prince, Nora Fatehi, and Jessie Reyez are further performers from the Canadian corner.
