Lewis Hamilon Once Wished He Could Be More Like Kanye West, but He Never Could

Lewis Hamilton has spent a lifetime going very fast in very straight lines, while Kanye West prefers to swerve loudly in every direction at once, and somewhere between the checkered flag and the megaphone, Hamilton has wondered what it might cost to speak as freely as his most unfiltered friend.

Once upon a time, back in 2016, Lewis Hamilton admitted he wished he could be as outspoken as Kanye West, now known as Ye.

“Kanye's outspoken, to say the least. I love that. He's electrifying in everything he does. I wish I could be that outspoken, I really do. But I'm signed to all these brands that have an idealistic image that they wish to be connected with, so I need to be careful,” Hamilton explained to City AM.

Hamilton revealed to City AM that during a visit to West’s home, the rapper told him, “me and you are very much the same.” West encouraged Lewis to embrace his passions without worrying about critics.

While Kanye West thrived in media attention, Lewis Hamilton had to balance fame and sponsors, hinting at how their paths would diverge.

Lewis Hamilton and Kanye West built a friendship long before rumors changed the narrative

Lewis Hamilton and Kanye West’s friendship dates back to 2014, marked by frequent appearances at fashion weeks and high-profile galas.

Over time, they exchanged advice on personal branding, but rumors of Hamilton dating Kim Kardashian in 2026 have complicated perceptions of their once-close bond.

As the years passed, Hamilton consciously distanced himself from West’s more disputable statements, prioritizing human rights and inclusivity.

While the mentorship once centered on creative freedom, their values and public images diverged. Yet, the influence of West’s boldness continues to linger, reminding Hamilton of the freedom he admired but could never fully embody in the corporate racing world.
