Madonna seems ready to prove that some Hollywood stories never really fade away. As the Queen of Pop gears up for the release of ‘Confessions II’, one track, ‘Bizarre’, has already become the album’s biggest talking point, with the singer seemingly taking aim at her ex-husband Sean Penn. And judging by the lyrics, the past may have found its way back into the spotlight once again.

In the track ‘Bizarre’, Madonna appears to take several pointed jabs at Penn, singing about a movie star with “deep blue eyes” who was the “perfect prize.” She also references a fast-driving Shelby Cobra, prompting fans to link the lyrics to the sports car she reportedly gifted Penn after their 1985 wedding. Lyrics such as, “I guess you’re threatened by me, you won’t admit it,” have only intensified speculation that Madonna drew from their turbulent relationship, though neither she nor Penn has addressed the fan theories.

“Now you’re gone, I feel so empty / Why do you tempt me?” Madonna sings in the track.

Madonna and Penn dominated Hollywood headlines throughout their marriage from 1985 to 1989 before ultimately divorcing. Despite their turbulent past, Madonna has continued to publicly support Penn over the years, defending him against abuse allegations in 2015 and later fueling reconciliation rumors when the pair held hands at a charity gala in 2016.

But ‘Bizarre’ is only one piece of the story. The arrival of ‘Confessions II’ marks one of Madonna’s biggest musical comebacks in over a decade.

The project also reunites the pop icon with longtime producer Stuart Price, with all 16 tracks sequenced to play as one continuous DJ-inspired club mix, mirroring the structure of the original album.

The album has already built remarkable momentum, even before its official release. Lead single ‘Bring Your Love’ featuring Sabrina Carpenter gave Madonna her strongest chart presence in years, while ‘I Feel So Free’ delivered her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart in 18 years. With more than 50 million pre-release streams, sold-out physical editions, and early projections pointing toward her biggest debut since ‘MDNA’, ‘Confessions II’ is already shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest music releases.

Whether ‘Bizarre’ is a direct message to Sean Penn or simply Madonna reflecting on a defining chapter of her past, ‘Confessions II’ has wasted no time becoming one of the year’s most talked-about album releases.
