Matt Damon is running to every corner of the entertainment industry possible for his upcoming collaboration with Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey. The actor is cranking up the promotional efforts as the release date comes closer. In one of the efforts to promote his historical epic, Damon ended up on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, where he revealed something very unexpected while talking about the film.

When asked by host Amy Poehler whether he likes doing Saturday Night Live!(SNL) or not, he replied that he loves doing it. But that is not all he included in his answer. He further revealed that the very first time he was invited to host the show, he was a bit puzzled and asked his agent why is being invited since he did not have any movie coming out or anything.

"No, Bruce Springsteen's the musical guest. We're going to get to hear two songs from Bruce," Matt Damon’s agent informed him.

The reason was simple enough: Bruce Springsteen. The actor then immediately agreed to the prospect of getting to see his favorite singer performing live. Therefore, Matt Damon hosted his first-ever SNL just for Bruce Springsteen.

The SNL episode with Matt Damon as the first-time host and Bruce Springsteen as the second-time musical guest came on October 5, 2002, with another musical guest in the mix, the E Street Band. True to Damon's reminiscing on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Bruce Springsteen first played ‘Lonesome Day’ with The E Street Band, followed by his solo performance of ‘You’re Missing.’

On Good Hang With Amy Poehler, Matt Damon recalled his first pitch meeting on Monday and how everyone was "chill," as opposed to him, who was in full panic mode. While the rest of the crew was making plans to go to the bar, he was dreading the 90 minutes that they all had to prepare by Saturday.

But he remembers that after an intense workup on Tuesday, he was just as comfortable as the rest of the guys by the Wednesday read-through. Matt Damon has hosted SNL three times and made numerous cameos in sketches. The most recent appearance on the show came on May 9, 2026, in Season 51.
