With an impeccable persona, the rapper turned entrepreneur, Megan Thee Stallion, has long embodied confidence and independence. Yet, behind the strengths she portrays are the quieter chapters she faced that took a toll on her mental health. And now, when she admits that love found her, it comes less casually and feels more consequential.

In the exclusive with PEOPLE partnered with Dunkin', the three-time Grammy winner shared how she did not see her relationship coming with Dallas Mavericks player Klay Thompson.

“I didn't even know I was going to be in my relationship, to be honest,” Stallion said. She further added that love found her when she was least expecting it, as she was in deep waters and was healing from mental health issues.

“I think that because finally I started being in a better mind space about myself and my life, and I had already been doing a lot of work to heal me," she shared with the outlet, further explaining how love paved its way when she focused on herself and her mental health, unlike pursuing it.  She mentioned how a better mental space opened up the space for someone to love her right.

In recent times, Megan Thee Stallion has struggled a lot with her mental health, making her now a strong advocate for the larger cause.

Megan Thee Stallion: Championing mental health

Megan Thee Stallion has been openly sharing her journey with grief, depression, and therapy in recent years, especially after losing her mother in 2019, who was suffering from brain cancer — a loss that deeply affected her and prompted her to seek professional support.

After the 2020 sh------ incident involving Tory Lanez, she later described falling into a period of depression and acknowledged how the trauma impacted her mental health before she began talking to a therapist.

In 2022, she launched her wellness website Bad B------ Have Bad Days Too, providing resources like therapy contacts, crisis hotlines, and support information, including for Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

She has also used her platform in 2023 to help break the stigma surrounding mental health by contributing to campaigns like Seize the Awkward. And it is these initiatives and passion that The Trevor Project honoured her with the 2025 Mental Health Champion of the Year Award for her efforts in raising awareness and uplifting marginalized communities.

After weathering grief, public scrutiny, and personal reinvention, Megan Thee Stallion’s story feels less like a comeback and more like a quiet reward for resilience. Sometimes, love arrives not as a headline, but as healing.
