Success has come when the NHL least expected it. Riding on the wave of Heated Rivalry, fans have flocked to experience the show's scoring hit in person.

The National Hockey League has come forward with an appreciation for the recent HBO hit, Heated Rivalry. Its hockey-centered plot has ignited a wave of enthusiasts who have a newfound fervor for the sport.

"In the NHL’s 108-year history, this might be the most unique driver for creating new fans," the NHL representative told The Hollywood Reporter. This gust of interest is being felt more than happily by the league.

The two protagonists, Ilya and Shane, are the driving force of this new craze. This has rubbed off on the NHL, improving the attention it has, as per the representative on The Hollywood Reporter.

The NHL's revived audience is symbolic of Heated Rivarly's success; the show has plenty to boast about on its own.

Heated Rivalry's heated route to Hollywood High

Jacob Tierney's Heated Rivalry is largely based on Rachel Reid's book series named Game Changers. It started as a speculative screenplay picked up by Crave, becoming its most-watched show, according to Deadline.

"An all-consuming, steamy, dreamy love fest of true queer intent, making Heated Rivalry a bona fide winner," reads the critics' consensus on Rotten Tomatoes. Following its debut on November 28, 2025, Heated Rivalry entered HBO Max's top 10 most-watched series.

Helming both NHL and HBO Max's first-time watchers, Heated Rivalry has carved a different queer niche in Hollywood. With a second season confirmed, the show is more than prepared to welcome even more.
