Olivia Munn Reveals On-Set Clash As Co-Star Opposed Female Rescue Scene

The art of acting, while it glitters with finesse in every frame, often holds stories of heavy friction behind it. From Henry Cavill's clashes over source material to Meryl Streep's request that directors be gentle in their critiques, it is clear that quality comes from a good session of soldering. Now, Olivia Munn has spoken of an incident along these lines, however, with slightly more chauvinistic undertones.

Olivia Munn recently dropped a bombshell anecdote on The Drew Barrymore Show. She recounted an on-set clash that laid bare Hollywood's gender politics. During a tense bunker shootout in an unnamed action film, her male co-star halted production for 45 minutes, declaring his biases to the director.

"She can’t save me. We’re not doing this," the unnamed actor has exclaimed, as per Munn. Her character, a sharp CIA agent or cop, was scripted to spot danger behind him and take the shot, a classic rescue beat. Instead, he turned combative in front of the entire crew, loudly rejecting the notion.

Munn, battle-tested from past industry fights like her role in Predator, diffused it by suggesting a position switch. He relented, and they wrapped without her having to explicitly save him. Munn further recalled instances when a certain director had relayed to another about Munn's combative personality on set, thinking to effectively keep the actress from the role.

While Olivia Munn shares this troubling experience, her professional collaborations reveal a different side of the industry.

Olivia Munn and James Marsden's decades-spanning bond

Olivia Munn and James Marsden's decades-spanning bond adds heart to their latest gig on Your Friends & Neighbors season 2, now streaming on Apple TV+. Hailing from Oklahoma City roots, they first crossed paths as teens. Munn, then 16 and freshly back from Tokyo, got an ice cream invite via Marsden's sister Jenny, back in the day.

What started as a casual hangout blossomed into Hollywood synergy years later, from X-Men nods to the neighborly thriller in Your Friends & Neighbors. Their easy rapport shines through promo circuits, turning nostalgia into on-screen magic. This feel-good friendship contrasts with Hollywood's underbelly. Just as Munn spilled her co-star's tantrum, her Marsden collab shows the flip side.
