Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter spent years as the internet’s favorite pop Rorschach test, with ‘Drivers License,’ ‘Skin,’ and ‘Because I Liked a Boy’ fueling a narrative of rivalry that fans and tabloids happily kept alive. Now, the story is quietly changing. Instead of shade, Rodrigo is offering respect, admiration, and maybe even the hint of a future collaboration.

In her Dazed cover story, Rodrigo did not hesitate when asked about collaborating with Carpenter. “Oh, gosh,” she said with a laugh, before adding.

Rodrigo has been gradually shifting the tone in multiple interviews. Speaking to British Vogue earlier this year, she had made it clear that there is no tension on her side. She described Carpenter as “great,” praised her success, and dismissed the narrative as something fueled by “weird and clickbaity” coverage. That repeated emphasis on positivity matters.

Her “it’s all love” comment, paired with her willingness to collaborate, reframes what once felt like Gen-Z pop’s most dissected rivalry. What used to dominate headlines now feels closer to closure, with both artists moving forward on their own terms. For fans who followed every lyric and timeline theory, the shift is striking.

Chart battle twist sees another Olivia Rodrigo title take the spotlight

Olivia Rodrigo came close to extending her flawless U.K. chart streak, but this time she was held at No. 2 by another Olivia. Her new single, ‘The Cure,’ from the upcoming album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,’ debuted strongly on the Official Singles Chart. Still, it had to settle for second place despite a powerful launch.

Taking the top spot is ‘Rain Me In,’ a collaboration between Sam Fender and Olivia Dean. The track continues its dominant run, becoming one of the longest-running No. 1 hits in recent chart history. Its sustained popularity ultimately blocked Rodrigo from claiming another chart-topping debut.

Even so, ‘The Cure’ remains a major success. It marks Rodrigo’s tenth U.K. top 10 hit and opens at No. 1 across physical singles, sales, and vinyl charts, while also landing within the top tier on streaming. Missing the top spot by one position does little to dent her momentum, especially when the competition is another standout hit riding massive global appeal.
