One Piece Eclipses Superman 18K+ Issues, Becomes A Global Sensation with 600 Million Sold

For decades, the comic book world has measured success by longevity, cultural impact, and sales dominance. From caped superheroes to swashbuckling pirates, few titles have managed to transcend borders the way the biggest franchises, such as Superman, have.

Now, that hierarchy has shifted. The Japanese manga phenomenon One Piece has officially crossed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide, surpassing the lifetime estimated sales of Superman across more than 18,000 issues.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, the pirate epic launched in 1997 and has grown into a cultural juggernaut spanning 114 volumes as of early March 2026. What makes the milestone even more staggering is the timeline, achieving in under three decades what took Superman nearly 90 years to build.

As the numbers rewrite comic book history, attention now turns to what continues fueling this extraordinary momentum.

What are the top-selling One Piece volumes?

The One Piece series’ sales dominance is not just cumulative, it is consistent. Recent Oricon data shows that Volume 108 topped 2024’s annual manga charts with 1.552 million copies sold, reflecting sustained demand deep into the story’s final saga. Volumes 109 and 110 followed closely, each crossing the million mark within the same year.

In 2023, Volume 105 led annual sales with an impressive 1.91 million copies. Historically, Volume 67 holds the record for the highest initial print run at 4.05 million copies in 2012, while Volume 60 was the first to break the 3-million sales barrier, milestones that solidified the franchise’s commercial supremacy long before the 600 million benchmark.

What do you think, will One Piece’s final arc push it even further into literary history? Let us know in the comments!
