In a conversation with Empire, Josh Safdie revealed that his upcoming Marty Supreme was conjured with only Timothée Chalamet in mind.

“The film was completely written for Timmy. For the dreamer side of him,” Safdie revealed. It was Chalamet’s self-belief and evolving artistic ambition that effectively became the project’s creative engine.

Safdie has also pointed to a blend of influences that shaped Marty Supreme. Central among them is the self-proclaimed America’s Greatest Table Tennis Player and Hustler, Marty Reisman. Safdie draws on Reisman’s persona of charm, showmanship, and calculated risk.

Elements from the director’s own life and extensive discussions with regular creative collaborator Ronald Bronstein further informed the film’s tone. With Chalamet serving as a constant reference point, the structure and psychological texture of the movie took shape supremely, according to his talk with Empire.

Marty Supreme follows a gifted yet volatile table tennis hustler navigating the competitive and underground scenes of New York. The film takes form as he struggles to convert raw talent into lasting supremacy.

Josh Safdie directed and co-wrote the film with Ronald Bronstein. The project has been produced by Safdie, Timothée Chalamet, Ronald Bronstein, and Eli Bush, with A24 handling distribution.

The film is led by Timothée Chalamet, joined by Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, and Tyler, the Creator. The calendars have been scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2025.

Safdie’s remarks position Marty Supreme as more than a standard sports drama or character study. Whether the film reshapes the genre or not, the creative alignment between Safdie and Chalamet has already become one of its most compelling talking points.
