The late 2000s saw a horror pioneer emerge from a home video camera. Paranormal Activity changed the perception of the genre, and it is poised to continue the streak well into the 2020s.

From being a fan of the 2007 released Paranormal Activity, James Wan will now helm Paranormal Activity 8, 20 years later. Dodging the horror-overloaded October, this installment is set to release on May 21, 2027, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

With Wan acting as producer, Undertone director Ian Tuason was confirmed to direct the film in late 2025. While the core of Paranormal Activity remains the same, the details of the plot are yet to be revealed.

The original creator-investor duo, Oren Peli and Jason Blum, will also act as co-producers, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Their production houses, Solana Films and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, are collaborating with Paramount.

James Wan, on the other hand, is perhaps the perfect fit to take Paranormal Activity into the late 2020s.

Paranormal Activity 8's confirmed director, James Wan, comes with a sprawling horror history. While he has dabbled with superhero and action genres here and there, like Aquaman in 2018 and Fast and Furious 7 in 2015, his specialty lies in some of the top horror franchises in the world.

Wan is the co-creator of the 2004 and 2010-started movie series, Saw and Insidious. He is also the primary creator of the Conjuring franchise, remaining as producer on all the movies after The Conjuring 2.

If not the Conjuring franchise's $2 billion worth gross, James Wan has several horror numbers to back him up. Come May 2027, the filmmaker's spin on the found-footage franchise will only be an addition.
