Before there was William Shakespeare, there was his tragically painted backstory. After a theatrical release of a modern-day retelling of his backstory, there comes the question of streaming it.

As of 2025, there are no available spaces to stream Chloé Zhao's Hamnet. The number is also most likely not going to appear on platforms like Netflix and HBO Max.

The Paul Mescal-starring movie acquired a theatrical release on November 26, 2025. Being a Focus Features film, a Universal Pictures subsidiary, the movie is likely going to be acquired by Peacock for the streaming audience.

An eventual purchase and streaming option, expected four months after the OTT release on Peacock, can also be anticipated, according to Decider. The possibility of Prime Video streaming comes with the movie licensing deal between Prime and Universal Pictures.

The anticipation for Hamnet's easier access is justified by the depth of its story.

Released just a month before the year could end, Hamnet brought forth a tale behind William Shakespeare's famous play, Hamlet. It is an adaptation of  Maggie O'Farrell's book of the same name.

Paul Mescal takes on the roles of the legendary playwright-to-be, while Jessie Buckley plays his wife, Agnes Hathaway. Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn play the supporting roles as Mary Shakespeare and Bartholomew Hathaway, respectively.

Adorned by the tale touching on William Shakespeare's craft born out of tragedy, Hamnet has immortalized yet another aspect of his life. The adaptation's poignancy deserves the anticipation it is receiving for its streamability.
