Prince William may have sniffed trouble brewing in the palace corridors long before the world caught on. Ex-Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and privileges by King Charles III and forced to leave the 30-room Royal Lodge amid Jeffrey Epstein-linked scrutiny. According to the excerpt released by the Mirror from the book, William and Catherine: The Monarchy's New Era: The Inside Story, Prince William wanted ex-Prince Andrew stripped of titles because he believed the BBC Newsnight interview triggered an institutional emergency. He viewed the former royal as an ongoing reputational risk, not a temporary embarrassment, and feared unchecked damage to succession credibility and the monarchy’s operational authority.

“He never much liked his uncle and wanted him out of the picture immediately before the rot further set in,” a source said. After the interview, the Duke of Cornwall directly urged King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II to isolate the former royal immediately, warning that delay amplified public scrutiny.

“He would question ‘what does he actually do?’.” according to the insider from the book, as per the Mirror, the Lord of the Isles was long frustrated by the ex-prince's presence in the castle. Prince William reportedly cited ex-prince Andrew’s dismissive treatment of staff and absence of defined duties, arguing that title retention without function undermined institutional discipline and internal morale.

The conflict peaked at Sandringham when King Charles III permitted symbolic visibility for ex-prince Andrew alongside Sarah, Duchess of York. The prince challenged the decision directly, viewing even limited reintegration as reputational regression, before being firmly instructed to stand down.

Prince William's alleged aversion towards his uncle does not come as a surprise, knowing how seriously he takes his job as the crown prince.
