There has been a longstanding friendship between Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, which has sometimes led to interesting incidents. Crowe has talked about some interesting incidents involving Cruise, both related to film shooting and otherwise. One such amusing incident involves an excursion by Crowe to Las Vegas, where Cruise introduced him to a strange way of playing blackjack.

During the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in November 2025, Crowe talked about his 90s experience when Cruise called him. He then went on about how he was taught a blackjack strategy by Cruise. Cruise also enabled their group to earn more than $25,000 through their trip to Las Vegas.

“It was Tom Cruise who taught me this. If you have it so the first chair and the last chair make the calls, and the decisions, and everybody else just sits on 12 and above, you watch the mathematics come your way,” he described, stating that the team-based blackjack system relied on discipline. 

In the same podcast, he said that during the Las Vegas trip, they went to the casino in the evening. In there, Cruise explained how to play his blackjack game plan. He also made sure that they won a significant amount of money before returning to Los Angeles.

For the unversed, even though Crowe and Cruise share a cordial relationship, they never worked together on a single feature film. Crowe always spoke of Cruise in very positive tones. He also shared his memories about the private visits, talks, and experiences the two had when they were not in the limelight.

Away from nostalgic memories, Crowe continues to stay busy with a diverse slate of projects in 2026.
