Sacha Baron Cohen’s Disheartening Update For Fans, Says 'Borat' May Never Return

In a disheartening revelation for longtime fans, Sacha Baron Cohen has now suggested that Borat may never return to screens again. While Cohen recently stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mephisto, Borat had long remained the actor’s most iconic and chaotic on-screen identity, becoming almost inseparable from his name in pop culture. However, it now appears fans may slowly need to prepare for Borat’s final bow.

During an interview for Ladies First alongside Rosamund Pike on Screenrant, Sacha Baron Cohen was asked whether audiences would see Mephisto or Borat return first. The actor unexpectedly admitted that his demonic Marvel character currently has the stronger future, saying he thinks Mephisto will likely return before adding that he does not know whether Borat will ever come back at all. The revelation instantly left fans stunned, especially since Borat had remained Cohen’s most iconic satirical creation for nearly two decades through Borat and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

"I think Mephisto. I don't know if Borat will ever return." Cohen told Screenrant.

And while Borat’s future suddenly feels uncertain, Marvel fans may have just received a major Mephisto tease instead. After years of fan theories surrounding WandaVision, the demonic Marvel villain finally entered the MCU through Ironheart, where flashbacks revealed Parker Robbins making a supernatural deal with the entity for his magical cloak. Originally introduced in Marvel Comics back in 1968 by Stan Lee and John Buscema, Mephisto draws inspiration from the Faust legend’s Mephistopheles and has famously clashed with heroes like Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and Scarlet Witch over the years.

And while fans still wait to learn when Mephisto might return to the MCU, Sacha Baron Cohen is already moving toward his next comedy release with Ladies First.

Sacha Baron Cohen gears up for his Ladies First release

Ladies First marks Sacha Baron Cohen’s next major comedy release alongside Rosamund Pike, with the R-rated satire officially set to stream globally on Netflix on May 22, 2026. Inspired by the French hit I Am Not an Easy Man, the movie flips traditional gender roles inside a chaotic modern world while continuing the sharp social satire that Sacha Baron Cohen built his career around. The film also arrives at a time when fans remain divided between wanting Borat’s return and curiosity surrounding Cohen’s future inside the MCU.

Directed by Thea Sharrock, the comedy also features a stacked supporting cast including Charles Dance, Richard E. Grant, Emily Mortimer, and Fiona Shaw. Meanwhile, as the wait for more from Mephisto continues following Daredevil: Born Again season 2 and Marvel Studios’ The Punisher: One Last K*** presentation, the MCU’s next major chapter is currently set to unfold with Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving in theatres on July 31.

And while Mephisto continues teasing a bigger MCU future, Cohen may have quietly pushed Borat closer toward his final goodbye on screen.
