Scott Pelley, one of the most familiar faces in television journalism, reportedly found himself at the center of a behind-the-scenes dispute at CBS. The veteran of 60 Minutes was fired following a tense confrontation with the program's newly hired executive producer. As details of the kerfuffle have begun to emerge, the incident has raised larger questions about increasing tensions inside one of the most popular newsrooms in television history.

Pelley was let go on Tuesday evening from 60 Minutes and CBS News after a heated argument with the program's new executive producer, Nick Bilton (via Deadline). The fiery clash allegedly included harsh words for the network’s management. Later, in the termination letter, Bilton addressed the heated clash with Pelley.

“Despite yesterday’s misconduct, I had hoped that in sitting down with you today, we could find a path forward together. You made clear that you are not interested in such a path. Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear. And I have heard you. I therefore write on behalf of CBS News to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated for cause effective immediately,” Bilton wrote in the letter(via Deadline).

Bilton alleged in the termination letter that Pelley publicly challenged his qualifications and leadership during a staff meeting, arguing that the correspondent's actions showed little willingness to support the program under its new leadership.

As Scott Pelly bids adieu to his run at CBS amid the heated clash, here is a look at his 60 Minutes.
