The actress and singer recently opened up about her vaping addiction and admitted that her voice has changed forever as a result.
In an Instagram Story, Selena Gomez said that her voice will never be the same after vaping nicotine, adding that the habit is “not worth it”.
“I'm not going to be able to change my voice,” the Rare Beauty boss wrote in the Story, addressing the persistent speculation about how her singing sounds different than it once did. “So if you don't like that, you're free not to listen.”
Previously, Gomez said that her throat was just swollen for unknown reasons and that it was changing the way her voice sounds. However, it turns out that it’s a permanent effect of vaping, an effect that Gomez hopes will serve as a warning to others. “My voice is different now b/c of vaping nicotine which I’ve thankfully quit but it’s irreversible,” she explained. “So if you don't like that, you're free not to listen. But I’m happy I’m sober and it can help someone else with an addiction. That habit was stupid and it’s not worth it.”
Gomez, who has lupus, previously explained how living with the painful autoimmune disease has affected her life.
The lupus has at times left her with such severe arthritis that opening a water bottle was an extremely painful task for the singer. In fact, that was the inspiration behind the design of the products in her cosmetics line Rare Beauty, which features packaging that’s easy to pick up and use.
