If one finds themselves flustered by the eccentricity of sleuthing geniuses, a third time would certainly be the final strike. After more than a decade, Sherlock Holmes seems to think the same as he walks back into business.

In 2009, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books were put to the cinematic test, resulting in a Golden Globe-winning adaptation. Leading the way, Robert Downey and Jude Law became the faces of Sherlock Holmes.

2011 saw a return, this time titled Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. 15 years later, Hollywood insider Daniel Ritchman has unfurled the long-debated question of a third part. Sherlock Holmes 3 is now said to be back in development, with the return of its star, Robert Downey Jr., as per several outlets.

While a third reprise has been in talks since right after the second film, delays have perturbed its production. Now, a third part, dotted with familiar faces and directed by Dexter Fletcher, can be expected.

Sherlock Holmes' story for the big screen was not made only to solve crimes, but to immerse one into the crimes as well.

Why the Sherlock Holmes films cannot be forgotten

Guy Ritchie was the first to pick up the script for a Sherlock Holmes film. His helming of the 2009 film brought a steampunk, fast-paced thrill to the 1880's characters by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherlock Holmes departed from the usually slow style associated with the fictional consulting detective. Ritchie instilled the movie with more movement, with Sherlock's deduction slowed down to feel real-time, and action-sequences to hook the onlookers deeper into the 22 Baker Street residents' world.

Partakers of the film have even teased the expansion of Sherlock's world beyond another film, as per several sources. With Sherlock Holmes 3, Robert Downey Jr.'s post-Avengers: Doomsday schedule might just be taking shape.
